Three players have been selected to play in the 2024 MLS All-Star Game in Columbus from FC Cincinnati: Lucho Acosta, Miles Robinson and Luca Orellano. This is the second year in a row that FCC has had that number of players selected.
Two of them were voted in, while one was directly selected by Wilfried Nancy. Acosta and Robinson were voted, while Orellano was a Coach’s pick.
Lucho Acosta is perhaps the most obvious selection on this roster, apart from Messi and Chicho Arango. He has been even better than last season, with nine goals and 14 assists — 23 G/A — in 20 league matches. It is his third year in a row as an All-Star.
Robinson has arguably been the best center-back in the league. The defense has been very solid when he is here, and his status as a USMNT player only solidifies his selection. He was additionally selected to the All-Star team in 2021, so he has already been known as a top defender in the league.
Orellano has excelled in his debut season as an attacking wingback, where Barreal — also a previous All-Star in 2023 — played last season. He has five goals and one assist in 19 matches, including his halfway-line goal against Philadelphia that might have sealed his selection.
The selection of these players isn’t only a sign of the team’s status at the top of the league. It is also a sign of the team’s ability to make great additions, as Robinson and Orellano are both in their debut seasons in Cincinnati.
The 2024 MLS All-Star Game will be played against the Liga MX All-Stars on July 24 in Columbus. It is a part of a larger week with other events: the All-Star Concert, the MLS NEXT All-Star Game and the Skills Challenge.
