FC Cincinnati is continuing the process of building toward a potentially historic domestic season. Now, two team members have been given another opportunity to establish a bit of legacy on the international stage.

Team standouts Matt Miazga and Brandon Vazquez have received call-ups to the U.S. Men’s National Team for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament. Interim head coach B.J. Callaghan has chosen the two as part of a 23-man roster for the event, the confederation championship of North and Central America. The camp begins in Chicago on June 20, in advance of the team’s tourney opener on June 24 in the Windy City vs. Jamaica.

The callup will keep the two FCC players away from their club team until as late as July 16, the date of the Gold Cup final in Los Angeles. It also could find Vazquez and Miazga back in Cincinnati on July 9 when the USA would play in a quarterfinal match at TQL Stadium if they qualify by finishing first or second of their four-team group.

FCC will be without the two stars at least for the matches on June 21 vs. Toronto, June 24 at DC United, July 1 vs. New England and July 8 at Charlotte. The duo potentially will miss Orange & Blue matches on July 12 at Red Bull New York and July 15 vs. Nashville as well, depending on how far the USA team advances in Gold Cup.

Miazga last played for the USMNT in a friendly vs. Mexico on April 19, when he came on as a substitute for 20 minutes. This came after a multi-year hiatus following 22 international camps including inclusion on the USA roster for the 2017 and 2019 Gold Cups.

Vazquez started the Mexico game and played 64 minutes, marking his third USA appearance this year and total. The big forward scored on his international debut vs. Serbia in January. The dual national player (Mexico) will be cap-tied and permanently tied to playing internationally for the U.S. if he appears in any of the Gold Cup games.
