William Bencic, a former Columbus Crew SC academy product from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, scored the first goal in FC Cincinnati academy history. Midway through the first half, Tacobi Nsimpasi headed the ball to Arquimides Ordonez, who slotted the ball through to Bencic. Bencic dribbled past the Minnesota keeper and buried the ball into the net for the only goal of the first half.

Akinni James of Atlanta, previously of NASA Tophat, earned a nice insurance goal for the team late in the second half. James beat his defender, dribbled to goal and slipped the ball past the keeper. Only three minutes later, off a cross from Charlie Hamman, Minnesota knocked the ball into its own net, all but ending the game. Hamman is a Cincinnati native who formally played for Kings Hammer Academy.
