It has been a busy day for FC Cincinnati and it does not appear they are going to slow down anytime soon with the addition of Emery Welshman to the 2019 MLS roster.
Occupying an international roster slot, Welshman is the 3rd player today that FC Cincinnati has announced. He will return to the club for the 2019 MLS season. Welshman has had a couple of previous stints in Major League Soccer, first with Toronto FC in 2013, and then with Real Salt Lake in 2016.
“This is a huge opportunity for me to move forward with a club that has ambition,” Welshman told FC Cincinnati. “When I signed with the club last year, I knew where they were heading, and I was excited to be part of that team. Now, to be part of an inaugural MLS squad, I’m very blessed. It’s very humbling. It’s a huge blessing for me and for my family and I’m very grateful.”
In 26 appearances during the 2018 USL Season, Welshman knocked home four goals and four assists. Welshman also recorded a hat trick against Detroit City FC in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup.
“Emery is a player that makes everyone else around him better,” Koch said. “He’s a selfless player and a selfless person. He’s willing to do what the team needs him to do and I’m excited to see him showcase himself in MLS. Like several guys on the team, he’s had a taste and probably didn’t get the best chance in the league. Now he has a chance to embrace this opportunity.”
Welshman originally signed with FC Cincinnati in 2018. In addition to his previous MLS experience, Welshman has played with Sigma FC located in Canada in 2014, the Real Monarchs from 2015-16, and Puerto Rico FC from the NASL in 2017.
