Mitch Says No! USL Says Yes!

FC Cincinnati Hildebrandt

Goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt was recognized with an honorable mention in this week’s USL Team of the Week. The honor was given to him for his outstanding performance in FC Cincinnati’s 2-1 win against Toronto FC II on Sunday. Hildebrandt made an acrobatic double save in the 83rd minute to keep the score level at 1-1. Just over a minute later Omar Cummings scored the game winning goal for FC Cincinnati. The save was so spectacular it was featured on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Day.

For those that may not know, “Mitch says No!” is the chant you will hear from the FC Cincinnati supporters groups after Hildebrandt makes a save at Nippert. Join in next time.

Hildebrandt has played every minute of FC Cincinnati’s five games so far. He has made 14 saves in 5 matches and carries a 1.40 Goals Against Average (GAA). Hildebrandt is a native of Livonia, Michigan and spent time with NASL side Minnesota United FC before joining FC Cincinnati as a member of the first player signings announced on December 7, 2015.

Hildebrandt was beaten out by Billy Thompson of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks for the top goalkeeping spot in the USL Team of the Week. Thompson had a 3 save clean sheet performance against San Antonio FC after entering the match as a substitute in the 20th minute. The Switchbacks won the match 1-0. Whatever.

You can find the full USL Team of the Week on the USL website.
