Hello Cincinnati Soccer Talk Fans! Your Orange & Blue traveled north of the border on Sunday to face a dangerous Toronto FC II side. The boys left Ontario with a 2-1 victory which leaves the them on 9 points, good enough for 4th place in the Eastern Conference. FCC returns to Nippert Stadium on Saturday to face the Wilmington Hammerheads. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
FC Cincinnati Displays Character in Canada Win- FC Cincinnati bounced back from last week’s defeat to rival LouCity with a 2-1 win against Toronto FC II. TFC II got things started with a goal in 1st Half stoppage time. Withdrawn forward Raheem Edwards netted his 4th goal in 4 games for the Young Reds. FC Cincinnati countered with two goals in the 2nd half behind the efforts of Andrew Wiedeman (60′) and Omar Cummings (84′). The play of the game came from FCC Goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt. In the 83rd minute, Hildebrandt parried away a TFC II shot and then bounced back to block the following header on goal. The sequence of play below landed Mitch 3rd on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays. “Orange Out” vs. Pittsburgh– The club announced they will hold an “Orange Out” for the home game May 14 against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. FC Cincinnati will wear their new third kit which will be on sale leading up to the game. Instead of blue on the front chest, shoulders and down the back, orange will now cover the front chest, shoulders and back. Blue coloring will feature on the bottom-front panel of the orange-out jerseys.
USL Partners with ESPN– On Friday, ESPN and USL announced a partnership that will see ESPN broadcast 20 regular season matches on their digital platforms ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. This partnership will also provide viewers to watch the 2016 USL Championship live on ESPN3. In addition to ESPN’s coverage of the USL season, the league will also be featured on the ESPN FC program shown through the network’s television and digital platforms. Michael Watts and Juan Arango will broadcast the matches on ESPN3.
MLS Interested in Cincinnati– Unless you lived under a rock the past week, you heard MLS Commissioner Don Garber’s thoughts on MLS expansion. Garber mentioned several cities as possible expansion targets including for the first time, Cincinnati. Upcoming Fixture: Home- Saturday, April 30th vs. Wilmington Hammerheads @ 7:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here or on game day at the Nippert Stadium Box Office.
Locally the game will be broadcast live on Star 64 and over the radio on ESPN1530AM. Fans can also stream via the USL YouTube channel.
Supporters Groups–
Die Innenstadt– will meet at Mecklenburg Gardens starting at 3 p.m. with the march starting around 5:30 p.m. to Nippert Stadium. DI has received their second shipment of scarves, which will be available for pick-up or purchase.
The Pride– will gather at the Brass Tap at U-Square starting around 4 p.m. with the march to the stadium at 6:00 p.m. Members of The Pride will receive 15% off their bill at Brass Tap.
Both groups will meet just outside the Marge Schott baseball stadium in the UC Athletic Complex around 6:10 p.m. The supporters will then march into Nippert Stadium to cheer on the Orange & Blue. If you are a casual fan, I would recommend trying to watch the supporters march.
