FC Cincinnati 4 HB Koge 0 – Full Time Report

The dream start continues for FC Cincinnati and silverware comes with it.

After a scoreless first half, FC Cincinnati scored 4 goals in the second to secure all three points and win the IMG Suncoast Classic preseason tournament.  The pivotal moment of the match occurred in the 55th minute, when FCC striker Sean Okoli got through 1-on-1 with the HB Koge keeper Frederik Hansen. Hansen brought down Okoli in the box to prevent a goal, prompting a penalty kick and red card for the keeper.  Substitute Andrew Wiedeman cooly converted the penalty, slotting the ball into the lower right corner.

FC Cincinnati controlled the game from there, exposing a shorthanded HB Koge side.  Three goals followed through Jimmy McLaughlin (65′), Weideman again (78′), and Jamie Dell (90′).

Start building the trophy case, because Harkes’ men are bringing home silverware and (a little) cold hard American cash.

What does it all mean for FC Cincinnati?

First, it means FC Cincinnati collects its first trophy after playing only 3 matches.  It also means a little cold hard American cash in the sum of $10K for the club.  Back home, the team treated its fans to 3 very entertaining matches and took the buzz surrounding the club to another level.  Now for the broken record part, it’s preseason.  Fitness and figuring out the first team are what’s important.  It’s true but boring. Winning tournaments, that’s fun.
