The sprint to the MLS Cup playoffs kicks back into full gear in a similar way the regular season started. FC Cincinnati began the 2026 voyage with a win over Atlanta United. However, since that first step, both teams have been struggling to match standards that made them past behemoths.
The Cincinnati defense has been a constant concern with unproven methods. Meanwhile, Atlanta United have thrown the kitchen sink on offense with little to show. However, the summer transfer window might provide answers now that all the pieces are in play.
We talk with Doug Roberson, former writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, to get his spin on the Five Stripes’ season. Can Atlanta still regain the success from Tata Martino’s first stint? Do the new pieces around Miguel Almiron fit well enough for the postseason to still be a reality?
