FC Cincinnati 2 begins a three-match away streak by traveling to Gillette Stadium to play the New England Revolution II.
THE REVOLUTION
The Revs have a mixed record with four wins, four shootout wins, and three losses; still, it is enough for them to sit in a playoff position at sixth place. Their form has not been consistent overall, but they are unbeaten in their previous two matches. They do find consistency on the home field, where they have no losses through five.
Their defense is a strong suit. Just 14 goals conceded in 11 matches makes them second only to Huntsville in the East. The attack, meanwhile, has netted a meager 17 goals—tied with Carolina Core for the least among the top nine Eastern clubs.
The Rev’s most recent result was a 2-2 thriller against Chicago Fire II, which saw them take two points in a shootout that ended 5-4. Both of their goal scorers, Judah Siquiera and Josh Macedo, were born in 2008.
Their roster consists mostly of academy players, as their squad is quite young. There are some notable faces from around the league in their ranksMarcos Dias is their marquee forward who signed from Vasco de Gama in 2022. Joseph Buck, the older brother of Noel, is also rostered.
THE ORANGE & BLUE
The Orange and Blue have been a major disappointment thus far. They have been in 14th, near last place, for most of the season. Through eleven, they have won in regulation only once with three other wins coming through a shootout.
Their roster possesses enough quality to win the East handsomely, and yet, their numbers are dismal. They are one of just three teams in the entire league to not have accumulated double-digit goals. Meanwhile, on the defensive end, they have conceded 18 goals in 11 matches.
The Orange and Blue’s most recent result was a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC II where they ended up taking two points away from a 4-2 shootout. Brian Schaefer scored the goal.
Through five away matches, FCC 2 have not won in regulation; they have a single shootout win, while the rest were losses. If they hope to come out on top for just the second time this season, they must overcome this—among other things.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
The last attacker to score for Cincinnati was Kenji Mboma-Dem in the beginning of May. He has been unavailable in recent weeks, leaving their forwards scoreless ever since. It is a toss-up as to who may score, but Andrés Dávila should be watched—he was described by the Guardian as one of the best talents born in 2007 worldwide.
Victor Souza is a leader on defense for New England, so he is their player to watch. He has started in all but one in their season thus far. This result will be decided by whether he is a force in that backline.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This is a defensive-forward match. The Revolution will be hard to break down, especially considering they are unbeaten at home. If Cincinnati hopes to get a positive result, they must reverse their misfortunes by threatening up top.
