Kenney Walker has been a staple in the FC Cincinnati community since his signing to the club in December of 2015. One of the first eleven signings, he quickly became a formidable force in the midfield.

In 2017, Walker’s and the club’s second season, he grew even more under the leadership of Alan Koch. Walker was named the Player of the Week against the New York Red Bulls II; in that match, he scored one goal and two assists. In the 2017 U.S. Open Cup run, Walker recorded an assist against the New York Red Bulls in the semifinal round.

With a total of 24 starts in 25 appearances, Walker scored two goals and led the club with seven assists. Walker ended the 2017 season as FC Cincinnati’s MVP.

Walker returned in 2018 to the excitement of the Orange and Blue supporters. And his third year proved to be his most talked-about yet. He started out his season against Indy Eleven on March 31, where he obtained a concussion injury in the first 10 minutes. This resulted in Walker missing three more matches.

Almost one month later, Walker made the SportsCenter Top 10 with an incredible 50-yard volley in the 68th minute against Ottawa Fury. This goal also won Walker the USL fan’s choice goal of the month for April.

Walker continued the year in his typical fashion — making a difference on the pitch. His presence caused momentum on the pitch — something fans miss the minute it’s gone. Walker’s contributions might have been under-appreciated at times, but the effect he’s had on the club is undeniable.

Walker made a name for himself at the end of FC Cincinnati’s third and final USL season. In the USL Eastern Conference playoff match against Nashville SC, the match came down the penalty kicks. The winning PK came off of Walker’s right foot, giving FC Cincinnati its first playoff win.

On Sunday, Walker posted on Instagram alluding to his departure. The club has not confirmed Walker is leaving, but it’s safe to assume that Walker will not be donning the Orange and Blue in FC Cincinnati’s inaugural season in MLS.

“…It has been an honor to be part of this club and this city over these past 3 years and doing something that will change this city forever… Cincinnati will always have a special meaning to me and my family… Thank you!”

The Orange and Blue faithful have taken to Twitter to express their thanks and their fond memories of Walker in response to his message. It’s obvious by the supporter reactions that Walker didn’t just make a difference on the pitch, he also made a difference in peoples’ lives. Check out some of our favorite responses below.

While we wait for confirmation on Walker’s departure, all of us here at Cincinnati Soccer Talk would like to send one message to our ruthless midfielder: good luck, Kenney Walker, and thank you for everything you’ve done for our club and our city. We appreciate everything you’ve done to help our club advance and make a name for itself — on and off the pitch — and we wish you luck in all of your future endeavors.
