Sem de Wit to also join FC Cincinnati from Whitecaps FC 2

Earlier today news broke that Forward Kyle Greig would be joining FC Cincinnati roster via loan. Cincinnati Soccer Talk has since confirmed via AFTN that he is not the only player from the Whitecaps organization headed to Cincinnati.

Sem de Wit, currently a center back with Whitecaps FC 2, will also join the Orange and Blue on a transfer. The Dutch player joined the Vancouver club after 4 professional seasons in the Netherlands. De Wit debuted with Almere City FC in 2012 starting in sixteen matches. He went on to play for ADO Den Haage, FC Dordrecht and was loaned to Fortuna Sittard, starting in fourteen matches.

Whitecapsfc.com describes de Wit as “a mobile and versatile center back with an excellent possession game.” He was named the Whitecaps 2 Player of the Year in 2016, and was re-signed in December.

According to AFTN, de Wit wasn’t part of Saturday’s USL squad that traveled to Colorado. The site also stated that former Whitecaps 2 and now FC Cincinnati Head Coach Alan Koch always spoke very highly of what de Wit brought to Vancouver last season.

This move could not come at a better time for FC Cincinnati. The Orange and Blue play twice a week the entire month of July. The defense faltered in Tampa Bay without Harrison Delbridge who has been listed as day-to-day with his injury. Due to the schedule congestion, Delbridge and Berry cannot be expected to start every match so adding depth could help carry the squad through this difficult period. Sem de Wit will also give FC Cincinnati more flexibility by allowing Hoyte and Bahner to play midfield roles.
