5 Things to Know

History- Cincinnati faced the Sluggers three times in the 2016 season. The first matchup saw the Orange and Blue fall 2-3 at home. Cincinnati then picked up their mitts and headed south on 71 to see an eventual 0-0 draw. The third and final match of the Dirty River Derby was a 2-0 victory for the Knifey Soccer Lion Kings. The clubs made many player transactions so the first match up of 2017 will be interesting.

No take backs- Cincinnati and Louisville shared a heated rivalry and an interesting offseason. Kadeem Dacres and Aodhan Quinn traded in their purple for orange. And former Cincinnati striker, Luke Spencer packed up and moved 99 miles south to Louisville. The barrel makers claim to have won the player swap but we all know who we’d rather have lacing up for our club.

RED dead redemption- Going into Saturday’s match, Koch will be without his speedy winger Kadeem Dacres. Last match against Tampa Bay, Dacres was shown red after attempting to gain possession and cleating a Rowdies defender. He will not be able to go up against his former club until the trip to Slugger stadium July 15th.

Resilient state of mind- There is something noticeably different about this years squad. Resiliency! We saw this Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the dying minutes of the game. Down a man, Cincinnati survived attack after attack from the Rowdies. It was a team effort to prevent the loss. This discipline and determination is a combination of the mentality preached by Alan Koch and the leadership from the veteran players.

Dirty River Rival- What can we expect to see from Loisville? Look for LCFC to try and remain compact vs. FC Cincinnati. Their back four doesn’t have the biggest names, but they have only conceded twice in four matches. If the big-man Luke Spencer does get the start, don’t expect him necessarily to score. Coach O’Connor uses him as a hold up player. You will see the midfield try to spring a counter and launch a ball to Spencer. Luke will try to hold it up for enough time that more players can join in the attack. There is plenty of pace to worry about on this club as well, but after seeing FCC neutralize that threat on Wednesday, I’m not too worried.
