FC Cincinnati select Roman Celentano second overall in MLS SuperDraft

FC Cincinnati selected Roman Celentano, a goalkeeper from Indiana University, with the second overall pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft on Tuesday afternoon. Coming into the draft, he was ranked as the Top Drawer Soccer’s #7 prospect on it’s Big Board. Celentano originally hails from Naperville, Illinois and was a two-time All American and two-time Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year. 

When asked about the pick, new manager Pat Noonan noted that Celentano would help fill, “an area of need.” Celentano joins goalkeepers Alec Kann, Kenneth Vermeer, and Beckham Sunderland currently on FCC’s roster. Celentano is on a Generation Adidas deal with MLS, meaning he will occupy a supplemental roster spot and that his salary will not count against the salary cap. 

Charlotte FC made Ben Bender, a midfielder from the University of Maryland, the number one overall pick. FCC are scheduled to be back on the clock with another first round pick at 14th overall.
