The clubs take some early time off for the sake of country. Time to take an international break and view the U.S. soccer landscape from 30,000 feet.
As much as FC Cincinnati occupies a lot of our attention, the competitive environment has expanded greatly nationwide. Even in the Tri-State area has fortified itself since the MLS call-up. Lexington SC is splashing cash to challenge Lou City in USL Championship, Indiana’s Fort Wayne FC made the jump to USL League One, and Forest City Cleveland will challenge for Ohio in the 2027 MLS Next Pro season.
So how do the lower leagues look in 2026, both on the pitch and on the hangers? We’ve asked Brett Mullenix from KIT SZN and The USL Show to give us his general glance at lower-league coverage and pick out his favorite kits from the USL universe. (We are, after all, the “Jersey Swap” podcast for a reason.)
