FC Cincinnati is trying to ‘figure out how to improve’ ahead of CF Montreal

In one of the lowest points FC Cincinnati has been in for several years, the orange and blue is at an inflection point. FCC started the year winning their first three matches in all competitions but have since lost four of their last five. Any good will from the lone win in that period, Tigres at home, was decimated by a 5-1 second leg choke. Pat Noonan weighed in Saturday on where the club stands.

“There’s no feeling sorry for yourself, you’ve got to get on with it, and it’s a good thing that we haven’t had stretches like this previously where it’s felt this way, but now you have to manage those emotions and figure out how to improve.”

In sports, until the final match has played, you always have an opportunity to ‘improve’. For FCC that opportunity comes quick a CF Montreal comes to town for a early afternoon match.

CF Montreal

Montreal have failed to make an impact on the MLS season. They are off to a 1-3-0 start just below FCC in the eastern conference standings. But they have weapons that can punish you if your not ready.

Key Players

You have to start with Prince Owusu for CFM. The star striker has been lethal since 2024 accounting for 31 goals across all competitions. Dagur Thorhallsson brings plenty of aggressive pressure on reshaping a team like FCC that likes to send numbers forward. Tomas Aviles got plenty of run with Inter Miami the last couple of seasons and isn’t afraid to muck the water with physical tackles.

Storylines to Watch

  • Matt Miazga has played two matches now returning from injury. It will be interesting to see if he makes the starting eleven this Sunday.
  • Short match preparation for FCC coming from a 11:30pm (10:30 local) final whistle Thursday night in Monterrey to a 1 pm start Sunday.
