A few weeks ago, César Luis Merlo reported that a deal for Ender Echenique was being finalized by FC Cincinnati. That news was soon confirmed by Tom Bogert, and today, by FC Cincinnati in its official announcement.

He will sign as a U-22 player, for a reported fee of $550k, amortized over a contract that will run through 2028 with an option for 2029.

Chris Albright had this to say about the acquisition: “We’d like to welcome Ender to the club. He’s a dynamic, young player who will add to our group with his versatility and pace. We are excited to work with him and look forward to his continued development.”

Ender is a 21-year-old Venezuelan winger who was playing for Caracas FC, a club in his country’s Primera Division. His numbers in 24/25 are eye-popping: 4 goals and 2 assists through 12 league matches, with 3 goals and 3 assists in the Copa Sudamericana—which is among the most goal contributions in the esteemed tournament. He has a total of 16 goals and 14 assists in 81 appearances for his club.

He is considered a top Venezuelan talent, being sought by Familicão in the Portuguese league, before his signature was won by Cincinnati.

Ender is a dynamic winger who is capable of playing on either flank; he can take on his man in 1v1s, dribble to the end line for a cross, or cut inside for a shot. He has a small stature with pace and a powerful shot.

He could be employed as a right wing-back  that drives forward on his dominant foot, as a left wing-back that inverts, or as a second striker / dual CAM depending on what formation Pat Noonan uses.

Ender adds options to an attack that looked like it has been missing a piece or two. It remains to be seen just how much he will be integrated into the squad, since it usually takes longer for U-22s. A threatening attacker off the bench is his likeliest role, at least for now.

The earliest Ender could debut would be away to Inter Miami on July 26—two days after the summer window opens—or vs. Monterrey in the first group stage match of the Leagues Cup on July 31. Expect him to get playing time throughout the Leagues Cup.
